HS Reunion, Bleu Appetizer and Pinks Arrive

A Not So Little  – BIG Thing   Go to your high school reunion. When I was doing research about creating this blog, everywhere I read said you have to be real.  Be honest.  Open up your life to your readers.  Give them something to connect to.  Hmmm, not sure about that.  Then I went to my 40th high school reunion last September and it has had a huge impact on me so I wanted to share my experience with you.  I started writing this back in September but it is finally ready to share.   That said, my heart is racing…

Holy Smoke, Azalea Confusion, Cashmere and a Seafood Ball

Azalea Confusion This winter has been … well not winter.  Yes, I know I moved south to get away from winter.  And yes, this confusion adds brightness and color to the yard early which is nice.  But after living in the south now for over a decade my blood has “thinned” so even the mildest winter can seem cold.  So this winter seems unseasonably bad.  We have had maybe a week of what I would call cold and only a couple days when a hat and gloves were needed once the sun went down and never during the day.  I…

A Trip to Trader Joe’s & a Mea Culpa

And so we shopped Most of the wines I blogged about last week were either hard to find or marginal at best.  Mea culpa, mea culpa!   So this past weekend we did some serious wine shopping.  We had been lax in our wine purchases because our 60 bottle wine fridge stopped working before the holidays.  And we just did not have a chance to research for a new one.  We took care of that on Friday and are now stocking up for when the fridges arrive.  Yes, I said wine fridges…more on that next post.  So like I said, we…

Friends and the Family Dogs

Happy Hour with Friends This past weekend we gathered with friends.  On Friday our snowbird friends came to the house for happy hour.  It’s a night of old dance music, take out dinner and lots and lots of laughter.  Well and wine of course.  We started with a red Côtes du Rhône from Domaine Courtois – La Source 2015.  I found this wine dry on the tongue with mild fruit on the light to medium bodied end of the spectrum.  I have had this wine before and liked it more before than I did tonight.  Gary on the other hand thought…

Work Life Balance and A Glass of Wine

The Weekly Pour Work Life Balance On Sunday, I was very conflicted as Gary and I were invited to a work associate/friend’s house for the afternoon and early dinner.  Conflicted because I felt guilty for not staying home and working.  Work life balance is a big issue for me since I work from home.  I work every day usually all day.  When I am on a deadline I can work until 10:00pm or later.  I love what I do so it does not “feel” like work, but it is work all the same.  One of the things that I do to…

Let’s Cook Indian Pakoras

Upon our arrival in Charleston we discovered that there were a couple  Indian restaurants that were decent but after living in Chicago that had a huge and thriving Indian food scene (I miss you Devon Ave.), decent just did not cut it.  Fortunately we have friends that loved to cook Indian. One of our friends used to live in Sri Lanka and she really got this all going.  While the group is transitioned my sister’s and I still bring a group together a couple times a year.   I am always assigned an appetizer and the first time I made…
