Pickled: An Appetizer and Me, Part 1

I have to admit; I got a little pickled at this year’s New Year’s Eve celebration. If you ask my non-drinking sister, this is the norm for all of us (except her, of course) on NYE, but I really tried to drink a lot of water this year.  I guess I failed by the magnitude of my headache the next morning. Maybe we should not have started so early. But more on that when I blog about what we drank which will be part 2 of Pickled: An Appetizer and Me. So the other pickling was an incredible appetizer. I had…

Turkey Burger with Herbs & Tzatziki Sauce

I shot a wedding on Saturday for a lovely young couple.  It was an indoor/outdoor event with temperatures hovering at about 90 degrees most of the day.  Those type of hot days can be so draining when you are on your feet for 9-10 hours.  So on Sunday, we were heading to the beach to spend it with family. Sunday was also our 29th anniversary, so there was no other place we wanted to be. You know from my praiseworthy post about Stella’s Greek Restaurant that I love Greek flavors. So when I got to my sister’s place at the…

Me and You and a Little Peru…-ivan Style Chicken

Gary is out of town this weekend at a conference.  I have no dogs to watch over, so it is just me on a Friday night and it’s time for dinner.  Actually, I came to this realization early Friday morning and I thought…”This will be a great day for that delicious Peruvian-style Chicken with Tangy Green Sauce and Salad.”  I say that because this is a recipe that uses a whole roasting chicken with skin and bones.   Gary likes his chicken without bones or skin so this was the perfect dish since he is not here. So I called a…

Roasted Grapes: Who Woulda Thought?

I was shooting a wedding a couple weeks ago and along with the accompaniments for the salad station was a bowl of what looked like red seedless grapes that lost its luster.  So I popped one in my mouth and was overcome by pure delight.  Roasted grapes – who knew!  I knew it was a grape but the flavor is more intense. It tastes nothing like a fresh grape but it is so so good.  My mind started racing about what one could do with these delectable morsels of goodness.  All I can say is, I never would have thought…

Pulled Pork Tacos Goes Vietnamese. It’s Easy and Delicious

I get a email from the Cooking Section from the New York Times almost every day.  Someday’s it catches my eye and other days it just gets deleted.  They cover the gambit on food ethnicities, styles, courses, etc.. Some days I may print out three for four recipes and other days it is merely inspiration.  But the day, I read this pulled pork recipe I knew I had to try it.  If you like Asian flavors you will LOVE this recipe.  While a few of the the ingredients may not already be in your pantry they are easy to find…

Craving Noodle Kugel

Spring has sprung which means Passover is coming which then means I crave Noodle Kugel.  Yes, I know Noodle Kugel is not part of the Passover celebration but this is when I think of it. Some of my Jewish friends took liberties with dessert served after the Passover meal, what can I say.  Fast forward to now….I love Kugle and think about it every Spring.  I have tried a couple recipes over the years with little success because they just did not taste like that which I had eaten.  That is until I found this recipe from Cooks.com.  I made it…
